The Dwarka school project, in New Delhi, was started in 2005. Sharwan identified a few girls who were very bright and he helped convince their families that the girls needed to stay in school. This would mean lost wages for the families but Sharwan knew that if the girls could get a good education, they potentially could lift the family out of poverty with the wages earned in the future. It also means the family must house & feed the daughter longer and cannot marry her off early. This goes against normal cultural family norms with regards to daughters. The following photo was taken in 2015. These female students are celebrating their successful passing of 12th standard class (equal to Western High School Graduations). Two of these girls are joining college in the fall. Sharwan is very proud of them and their families! Background: In order for slum children to attend local government schools, families must be able to afford the school uniform and supplies themselves. Slum families are usually day wage earners and saving the rupees for these items can be impossible. One of the program costs for SKT is uniforms and supplies for students who show a passion and desire to be successful in school. Your donations to SKT are used in so many ways to help bring opportunity to poor individuals. Please donate to help our work continue.
