Lata was born to poor family and had no education as a child because of her own parents’ lack of education and income. She was put into child labor to help earn income for the day-to-day expenses of her family. At 16, she was married and quickly bore two daughters. Unfortunately, her husband died after only six years of marriage due to an unknown disease and prolonged suffering.

At a young age, Lata was a widow with two daughters and no source of income. For years, she sought daily labor opportunities, but it was never enough to support herself and her daughters.

Her situation was brought to the attention of Save Kids Trust (SKT). Through intervention and counseling, we discovered an income generation solution. SKT purchased a three-wheel cart, a Kadhai (iron frying pan), a wood stove, and other kitchen items to set her up in a business. Lata now offers seasonal vegetables for sale off her cart and sells freshly made street food to her community.

Lata now earns enough to support her family and provide an education for her two children. She lives a life of dignity and has respect in her society. Lata and her daughters work hard and the economic support SKT provided will help them all reach their potential, thus bringing one more family out of the cycle of poverty.
