From Severe Anemia to Hope

Kavita's Story — From Severe Anemia to Hope
Kavita is a 15-year-old girl from a financially struggling family. A few months ago, she became seriously ill, diagnosed with acute gastritis and severe anemia, her hemoglobin level at just 7.5 g/dL. The Save Kids Trust (SKT) team immediately helped her get admitted to a government hospital, where she received two units of blood transfusion, and we continued to follow her closely throughout her treatment.
Behind Kavita's illness lay deeper struggles. Her father passed away in 2021 from a brain hemorrhage, leaving behind his wife and seven daughters. Four of the daughters are now married and living in other cities, while three — including Kavita — live with their mother, who is the family's sole earning member. She works as a domestic cleaner, earning barely enough to meet the family's basic needs.
SKT wanted to help Kavita recover not just medically, but see her family grow more self-reliant. Alongside her treatment, we provided the family with a sewing machine, giving Kavita and her mother the opportunity to learn tailoring skills and earn an income from home.
The results have been encouraging on both fronts. Kavita's hemoglobin has risen from 7.5 to 10.5 g/dL, and with regular iron tablets and prescribed medicine, her levels are now being steadily maintained. At the same time, the sewing machine has brought new hope to the household — the family is now able to earn from home and contribute toward their everyday needs.
For Kavita's family, Save Kids Trust's support has meant far more than medical treatment. It has given Kavita a chance to regain her health, and given her family a path toward dignity, hope, and self-reliance. Today, Kavita is healthier, stronger, and looking toward a better future.
