Eye Care Comes to Gurjar Ki Thadi

For many residents of the informal settlements surrounding Save Kids Trust's clinics in Jaipur, basic eye care has simply never been within reach. The cost of an exam, the distance to a specialist, the demands of daily survival — any one of these is enough to keep a family from seeking help. For most, it has been all three.
In May 2014, Save Kids Trust addressed this gap directly by organizing two eye care camps through their Jaipur clinic. Community members who had quietly struggled with failing vision — some for years — finally had a place to come.
The results were significant. Several patients were found to have cataracts and were able to undergo surgery to restore their sight. Dozens more received proper eye examinations and, for many, the simple but life-changing gift of a pair of glasses.
For a daily wage earner who can't see clearly, or a child straining to follow along in a classroom, clear vision isn't a luxury — it's a doorway.
Specialty camps like this one are made possible by visiting doctors who give their time and expertise to serve communities that would otherwise go without. Save Kids Trust welcomes and actively supports these partnerships, and invites medical professionals interested in contributing their skills to reach out. Together, there is much more that can be done.
