Ekbal’s New Hand

Ekbal was 21 years old in 2021 when he visited a Save Kids Trust (SKT) Clinic. Ekbal lives in northern India but heard of our clinic and mission from a friend who lives in Jaipur.

Ten years earlier, when Ekbal was 11 years old, he was cutting grass for his family’s cattle with an iron machine. He slipped and accidentally cut off all the fingers on his left hand. The local medical clinic was able to clean the wounds to save his hand. He recovered and managed his work with only his right hand.

Five years later, his right hand accidentally met a high voltage wire passing a balcony in a building. In India, it is very common to see open electricity wires and it some places the wires can look like a spider web. Unfortunately, his right hand completely collapsed, and he was immediately taken to a hospital. After a few weeks of treatment, they had to amputate his right hand and wrist. At this point, he was completely dependent on other people for survival.

Ekbal’s family is very poor and they tried to help Ekbal to the best of their abilities but they could not offer more than their personal help.

Ekbal has a friend in Jaipur who works near a SKT clinic. He came to talk to the doctors to see if we could help his friend.

​Jaipur is well known for their prosthesis development and businesses. Dr. Saini has contacts inside these businesses so the answer was yes, we can help. Ekbal traveled to Jaipur, stayed with his friend, and through the help of SKT was able to secure a right arm & hand prosthesis.

Upon returning to his home, Ekbal decided to turn to gardening as a job. He hopes to return to Jaipur and SKT to see about a prosthesis for his left hand in the future.
