This family recently migrated from the Dausa District of Rajasthan, to Jaipur to secure jobs as day laborers at a construction site. They are renting a room near one of our Save Kids Trust clinics. Amar, the youngest of four children, came down with a fever that proceeded to get worse. A neighbor referred the family to our clinic after they saw the parents trying to help the young boy. A one-dollar blood test showed Amar had low platelet count, a symptom of dengue. The clinic treated the fever immediately with proper medications and then took the boy and his parents to the government hospital for platelet infusion and lots of fluids. He is doing well now.
Often, though, children of India die because of the untreated, or mistreated, high fever and low platelet count.
