A significant goal of Save Kids Trust (SKT) is to open one additional clinic each year to serve underprivileged communities. One such community that Dr. Saini, our Executive Director, has been in contact with for a few years, resides an hour outside the Jaipur. These people, called Banjara, have been living in tents with no electricity, running water, or sewer infrastructure for over thirty years. They are very poor and rarely get medical intervention of any kind. There are about 30 families in this community, each family unit representing two or three generations.
SKT recently held a sidewalk clinic in the area. The slideshow of photos highlights the breadth of the people reached on this one weekend, but we would like to tell you specifically about Onkar. His mom escorted him to the clinic.
When Onkar was 5 years old, he fell from a height and severely broke his leg. His family and the extended community did not have the money to get him help. His leg healed on its own and has left him crippled. Onkar found the walking stick in the photos to help him get around. With the diagnosis that the SKT staff could supply right then, it is clear that it will take several surgical steps to help him because his leg is now shorter than the other and his foot will need to be artificial. The eventual goal is to help him walk normal as he moves into his adult life.
Save Kids Trust can assist Onkar with arranging the expert intervention it will take to secure surgeries, medical oversight & medicines while healing, and eventual foot prosthetic. The eventual opening of a SKT clinic nearby will help remedy this type of situation, and more, immediately.
Your support will help us provide more medical intervention for this community. Please donate today!
