Tanvi and Nakul had numerous struggles. Nakul was an alcoholic who also was suffering with tuberculosis for a prolonged time. Because of his two ailments, Nakul had to stop working and the financial condition of the family was deteriorating. Tanvi approached the Save Kids Clinic for medical assistance and we introduced them to Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) for Nakul. He started the treatment but discontinued because of his addiction.
Tanvi approached us again for treatment but this time she had no money to buy even the medication needed for her husband. SKT again helped Nakul start the DOT treatment, this time with proper counseling and guidance. Meanwhile, Tanvi was searching for work to support the family financially. She has a handicapped leg and found getting any job impossible. Tanvi approached the clinic again in the hopes of discovering a different solution for family income. The best we could find was to set her up with a groundnut thela (vending cart). We started with a rented thela to experiment for a month. To our great surprise, she did well and had some income at the end of the month! We purchased her a thela and enough groundnuts to sell so she could continue the rotation process on her own. Now, the family has an income which is enough to meet their basic needs as well as their medical needs. Nakul has also completed the treatment and is helping Tanvi. They are now living very happy in their elderly age. For another story about how Save Kids Trust has helped families both medically and vocationally, read the stories on our website dated 6.4.2012 (Darkness to Light) & 4.10.2022 (Decade-Long Journey).
