The young women you see getting blood drawn were part of a menstruation education clinic. One part of the training is about anemia which is very common in informal housing communities due to inadequate vitamins and minerals in daily food. All these women volunteered to see if they were anemic. At one event 50 blood samples were taken: 27 were anemic, 7 needed advanced intervention, and two qualified for a full blood transfusion. They were all treated or referred to the hospital by SKT. Anemia is a common illness for these communities. Luckily, it is also very treatable.
