Staying Safe In Summer Heat

As summer reaches its peak, children in informal housing areas spend long hours playing outdoors — often without water, without shade, and unaware of the health risks that the scorching heat can bring. Every year, this season brings a rise in preventable illnesses like diarrhea, dehydration, and heat stroke among the most vulnerable.
Save Kids Trust (SKT) organizes educational seminars for children and families in many communities. During this summer meeting, our team explains in simple and friendly language how to recognize the warning signs of heat stroke and how to protect themselves — staying in the shade, wearing light clothing, and drinking water regularly throughout the day.
Children also learn how to correctly prepare and use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), a simple but life-saving treatment for diarrhea and dehydration. Many leave eager to go home and share what they have learned with their families.
At SKT, we believe awareness is the first step toward a healthier community. When children understand how to care for their own health, entire families benefit — and illnesses that are entirely preventable, stay that way.
